the mystic doctrine

14 In the infinite wheel of Brahman in which everything lives and rests, the pilgrim-soul, or the reincarnating self is whirled about when it thinks that it and the supreme Ruler are different or separate. It attains immortality when it is blessed or favoured by Him.

15 This is verily declared as the supreme Brahman. In that is the triad. It is the firm support. It is the indestructible. By knowing what is therein, the knowers of Brahman become devoted to Brahman, merge themselves in it and are liberated from birth.

16 The triad are the world, the individual soul and the supreme Soul. The triad are the enjoyer, the objects of enjoyment and the supreme Soul.

17 The Lord supports this universe which consists of a combination of the perishable and the imperishable, the manifest and the unmanifest. As long as the individual soul does not know the Lord, it is attached to sensual pleasures. It becomes the enjoyer and is bound. When it knows the Lord, it is released from all fetters.

18 The knowing Lord and the unknowing individual soul, the Omnipotent and the impotent, are both unborn. She (Prakriti), too, who is connected with the enjoyed and objects of enjoyment, who causes the realisation of the enjoyer and enjoyed, is unborn. When all these three are realised as Brahman, the Self becomes infinite, universal and inactive (free from the sense of agency and actor).

19 Matter is perishable, but God is immortal and imperishable. He, the only God, rules over the perishable matter and the individual souls. By meditating upon Him, by union with Him, finally there is cessation of all illusion.

20 By knowledge of God all the bonds of ignorance are destroyed; there is a cessation of birth and death with distress destroyed. By meditating on Him one attains the third state, viz., universal Lordship at the dissolution of the body. All his desires are gratified and he becomes one without a second.

21 This is to be known as eternally existing in one's own Self. Truly there is nothing higher than that to be known. When one recognises the enjoyed, the object of enjoyment and the dispenser or the supreme Ruler, all has been said. This is threefold Brahman.

22 Realisation is not achieving something. It is only knowing one's own infinite nature by tearing the veils, by annihilating the ignorance, by cutting asunder the three knots, viz., ignorance, desire and action.

23 As fire is not perceived when it is latent in its cause, the firewood, and yet there is no destruction of its subtle form, because it is again perceived in its cause, the firewood, by rubbing, so also the Atman is perceived in the body by meditating on the sacred syllable Om.

24 By making one's own body the lower piece of wood or friction-stick, and the syllable Om the upper friction-stick, and by practising the friction or churning of meditation, one will realise God who is hidden, as it were.

25 As oil in sesamum seeds, as butter in curd, as water in river-beds and as fire in wood, even so is Atman perceived within his own self by a person who beholds Him by truth, austerity (by controlling his senses and the mind).

26 The Atman which pervades all things like butter in milk, is rooted in Self-knowledge and austerity. This is the mystic doctrine concerning Brahman. This is the mystic doctrine concerning Brahman.

Thought for Today

Little by little, wean yourself.
This is the gist of what I have to say.

From an embryo, whose nourishment comes in the blood,
move to an infant drinking milk,
to a child on solid food,
to a searcher of wisdom,
to a hunter of more invisible game.

Think how it is to have a conversation with an embryo.
You might say, "The world outside is vast and intricate.
There are wheatfields and mountain passes,
and orchards in bloom.

At night there are millions of galaxies, and in sunlight
the beauty of friends dancing at a wedding."

You ask the embryo why he, or she, stays cooped up
in the dark with eyes closed.
Listen to the answer.

There is no "other world"
I only know what I've experienced.
You must be hallucinating.

samadhigathOsmi vidhUtha-bhEda-mOha:

I have now understood that the primordial Lord (without any birth) shines in the hearts of every one of His creations. Knowing this supreme truth, my ignorance has been removed now. The Sun in the firmament is Only One and yet is seen by every eye. Even though there are multitudes of eyes that experience the Sun, that Sun which is being seen has no differences. The same Sun is seen as reflections in the waters stored in limitless vessels and yet has no variations. Just like that, the ParamAthmA experienced by countless yOgis in their hearts is one and the same. I have now realized this supreme truth and have become fulfilled.

Thus the grand sire of BhArathA clan eulogized Lord KrishNA in the battle field and surrendered his mind, speech and indriyAs at the holy feet of the Lord. Due to the command of the Lord, there was total silence at that time of surrender. The Athma JyOthi of BhIshmA, the great devotee of the Lord, reached the sacred feet of the Lord.

Dear All :

On This Father's day , those of you who have lost their father at the
cruel hands of death, do not despair . Yes! many of us may have lost
the physical father who brought us into this world but our Father in
Vaikunta ( SRIMAN NARAYAN )is always eternally in our hearts.

In Srimad Bhagwat Gita , chapter 14 verse 4 reads

Sarvayonishu kaunteya moortayah sambhavanti yaah;
Taasaam brahma mahadyonir aham beejapradah pitaa.

Whatever forms are produced, O Arjuna, in any womb whatsoever, the
great Brahma is their womb and I am the seed-giving father.

Shriman Narayana is our 'Sed Gving' Father !
HE IS THE 'PURUSHA' of the Purusha suktham!

Dhaatha purasthad yamudhajahara.sacra pravidhaan pradhisascha thathra.
Thamevam vidwaan anu mrutha iha bavathi. Naanya pandha ayanaaya
vidhyathe. 1-17

The learned one who knows that Purusha
Whom the creator, considered as one before Him,
And whom the Indra understood in all directions,
Would attain salvation even in this birth,
And there is no need for him to search for any other path.

Yes! Dear all! on this Father's day , he is our divine father , our
eternal Guru , who is guiding us in our day to day life .

Sloka 23 of Bajagovindam states

kastvaM ko.ahaM kuta aayaataH
kaa me jananii ko me taataH .
iti paribhaavaya sarvamasaaram.h
vishvaM tyaktvaa svapna vichaaram.h .. 23..

Who are you ? Who am I ? From where do I come ? Who is my mother, who
is my father ? Ponder thus, look at everything as essenceless and
give up the world as an idle dream.( Stanza attributed to Surendra)

Yes! Give up all earthly bondages - This is my Mother, this is my
father , this is my son and this is my daughter etc etc - It is only
in this janma , they are your relatives .

This does not mean you do not 'respect' your parents - you
always 'honor' and do your duty by your parents . But the only
lasting relationship is the relationship you have is
the 'relationship' with Lord -Adi Purusham! He IS YOUR FATHER, MOTHER

Adi Shankara Bhagvadapada sings in 'NIRVANA SHATAKAM'

Na Me Mrityu Shankaa Na Me Jaati Bhedah
Pita Naiva Me Naiva Maataa Na Janma
Na Bandhur Na Mitram Gurur Naiva Shishyah
Chidaananda Roopah Shivoham Shivoham

I have no fear of death,
nor have I any distinction
of Caste,
I have neither father,
nor mother, nor even birth,
nor relation, nor friend,
no teacher, no disciple,
I am pure Knowledge and Bliss,
I am all Auspiciousness,
I am Shiva.

Yes! i was my father's little girl - he adored me so much ; he used
to call me 'cherry blossom' and he pampered me so much that i was a
spoiled brat - arrogant , proud and above all a 'shrew' ! who tamed
me? Yes ! When my dad died in the autumn of 1989, i realized for the
first time that i am no longer a little girl but a woman, a stronger
woman tamed by Life's cruel circumstances ! Yes ! To be a Father and
mother to three teenage kids is not an easy task- it was Shriman
Narayana who carried me on his shoulders through Life's journey! He
is my father and He is my guru !

naaraayanaa paro jyotiratma naaraayanaa paraah

naaraayanaa param brahmaa tattwam naaraayanaah paraah

naaraayanaa paro dhyaatah dhyaanam naaraayanah paraah

The Lord Narayana is the Supreme Absolute; Narayana is the Supreme
Reality; Narayana is the Supreme Light; Narayana is the Supreme Self;
Narayana is the Supreme Meditator; Narayana is the Supreme Meditation

Om Namo Narayana!
